How to Make Cataract Surgery Even Safer
Tuesday, November 07, 2017 | Medical Studies
Cataract surgery is a common and relatively safe procedure, but taking a few specific steps can help make it even safer, according to experts in Massachusetts.
“A series of serious adverse events during cataract surgery occurred in Massachusetts in recent years, and these were reported to the Department of Public Health. The Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety, a nonregulatory Massachusetts state agency, responded by convening an expert panel of frontline providers, patient safety experts, and patients to recommend strategies to prevent patient harm during cataract surgery,” lead author and panel member Dr. Karen C. Nanji of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, told Reuters Health by email.
Dr. Nanji and colleagues report their findings and recommendations in two articles in Anesthesia & Analgesia, online October 5.
