Platinum Chains Yield Fewer Complications of Upper Eyelid Loading

In the management of lagophthalmos, platinum chains are associated with fewer complications than gold weights for upper eyelid loading, researchers from UK report in a Medscape article.
"I found the large difference in the long-term need for further surgery between gold weights and platinum chains most interesting,” Dr. Raman Malhotra from Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, UK told Reuters Health by email. “This was definitely my impression in my practice as the years progressed, but the actual figures were very interesting.”
Lagophthalmos, the inability to close the eyelids completely, is commonly managed by using gold weights or platinum chains/segments for upper eyelid loading.
