Eyetube Launches New Channel for 3D Videos—Eyetube3D
Friday, August 11, 2017 | Product Releases
Eyetube.net announced the launch of Eyetube3D, a new channel that allows physicians with a virtual reality (VR) headset to view 3-dimensional surgical cases online.
The Eyetube3D channel is launching with 30+ videos focused on vitreoretinal surgery. The 3D experience works by viewing videos recorded in stereoscopic (side-by-side) format through a pair of VR goggles such as Google Cardboard. The lenses of the VR goggles adjust how the eyes perceive each side of the stereoscopic 3D video to mimic how each eye sees the natural three-dimensional world.
The Eyetube3D channel is available at http://eyetube.net/3D
Eyetube3D videos can be accessed through the browser on a mobile phone or the new iPhone Eyetube App (version 2.0.1 or newer) in the Apple App Store. The new iOS App contains a sync feature that allows users to wirelessly change the videos playing in the phone without removing the device from the VR goggles. For an explanation on how this works, watch the instructional video at http://eyetu.be/jdfan.
“With the addition of Eyetube3D, we are able to share the advanced video capabilities of modern operating rooms with the entire ophthalmic community through online viewing,” said David Cox, President and Co-Founder of BMC, the parent company of Eyetube.net and Eyewiretoday.com. “As the largest resource for on-demand ophthalmic videos, it’s critical that our capabilities grow in tandem with the trends in surgical visualization systems. Now we can show not only what surgeons see but how they are seeing it.”
Eyetube’s video library has grown to over 7,000 surgical cases, physician interviews, and expert commentary since its debut in 2008.
As a launch promotion, BMC is offering a free pair of VR goggles to the first 1,000 United States based retinal specialists that register and qualify. Demonstrations of Eyetube3D will be available at booth #530 during the American Society of Retina Specialist (ASRS) at the Hynes Convention Center from August 12-15, 2017.
