Patients with chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) have an increased risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), according to a Danish registry study. "Blood cancers, which most recently have been described as ‘inflammatory diseases’ and ‘a human inflammation model,’ actually are associated with an increased risk of AMD - an eye disease, which is believed to be associated with systemic inflammation as well,” Dr. Hans Carl Hasselbalch from Zeeland University Hospital, University of Copenhagen, Roskilde, Denmark told Reuters Health by email.
