Antibiotic-Associated Adverse Events Common

One in five hospitalized patients experienced adverse drug events (ADEs) when prescribed antibiotics, according to a study published online June 12 in JAMA Internal Medicine. "Although antibiotics may play a critical role when used appropriately, our findings underscore the importance of judicious antibiotic prescribing to reduce the harm that can result from antibiotic-associated ADEs," write Pranita D. Tamma, MD, MHS, from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland, and colleagues.
